General and Family Dentistry Exams and Treatments

At Kingston Dental Associates in Kingston, NY, we offer complete family dentistry cleanings and exams for the entire family. Dental cleanings and exams are two of our most important preventive treatments. Our goal is to help you and the whole family maintain a healthy mouth and smile.

Dental Bridges

If you are missing a significant number of teeth, our dental team will recommend a dental bridge for restoration. A dental bridge is anchored in place through the use of two dental crowns, custom-made to fit your smile and placed on the teeth or dental implants next to the space left by the missing tooth. They are non-removable and designed to last for a long time and restore your smile's function, beauty, and health.

Benefits of a Dental Bridge

  • Restoring your ability to speak, eat, and chew normally
  • Alleviating excess stress on the bite
  • Improving the shape and volume of your face
  • Replacing an unwanted removable partial denture
  • Preventing the remaining natural teeth from moving out of position
  • Enhancing the appearance of your smile

Dental Crowns

If you have a damaged or decayed tooth, a dental crown may be your best option for repair. Sometimes, a tooth can be damaged beyond a filling, so a crown is your best solution. Crowns can also be used for several other restorative and aesthetic purposes, including:

  • Protect a tooth following root canal treatment
  • Anchor and attach a dental bridge
  • Cover and complete a dental implant
  • Enhance the beauty of your smile
  • Improve a misshapen tooth
  • Strengthen a tooth that is fractured or weak
  • Support a large filling when little natural tooth structure remains

Dental Fillings

A dental filling is a restoration to repair minor to moderate tooth damage. We may recommend a filling if a tooth has been damaged by decay (for example, if it has a cavity) or suffers from minor fracturing or chipping. The dental filling is used to restore the tooth to its original structure and function and return your smile to good health.

Dental Sealants

A sealant is a preventive dental treatment our dentists may recommend to protect patients' teeth from decay. A dental sealant is made of a clear or tooth-colored resin material, which is painted onto the chewing surface of teeth. By blocking out the bacteria and food debris that lead to tooth decay, the sealant prevents decay and cavities. The dental sealant forms a smooth coating over the natural pits and grooves of the tooth surface, making it easier to clean teeth with regular brushing.

Non-Surgical Root Canal Therapy

If you have decay or damage in the pulp or nerves of your teeth, our dentists may recommend a non-surgical root canal as an alternative to extraction. Root canal therapy helps to restore your oral health and preserve your teeth for years to come. TMJ Treatment

The TMJ is the temporomandibular joint or the joint that connects the lower jaw to the rest of the head. The term "TMJ" is often used to refer to TMJ disorder, also called TMD, which occurs when the jaw joint becomes stressed, injured, or misaligned. TMJ disorder may result from several different factors, such as stress, bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching), arthritis in the TMJ, or trauma and injury to the head, neck, or jaw.

You may suffer from TMD if you experience frequent jaw pain or facial pain.

TMJ disorders may also cause:

  • Grinding, clicking, or popping sounds in the jaw when you open and close your mouth
  • Inability to open your mouth wide to speak, yawn, or chew
  • A locked or stuck jaw
  • Pain when chewing and biting
  • Pain in the neck, shoulders, or ears
  • Frequent headaches
